Capture of the Week – Simple Stories

ISO 500, 1/8000sec, f/3.2, 90mm

Karl took this photo at Kylie and James’ Palm Beach wedding.  It was taken before the ceremony and before Kylie had arrived.

Over the coming weeks, we will start to share some of our award photos from this years State and National AIPP Professional Photography Awards.  This photo was awarded a Silver at this years National awards which we are thrilled with.

I love this photo for its simplicity and storytelling.  There is nothing distracting in this image and the story-telling aspect of it is so strong.

Karl and I were chatting about this image recently just saying how it’s one of those photos that could easily not happen.  It was not a set up shot.  Karl just happened to see this image happen in front of his eyes.  Any other day, he may not have been in the right position or he may not have even seen this photograph.  That’s why it’s so important for us to be really ‘present’ at a wedding.  Being really present slows things down and really allows us to see things clearly and moments that happen in a fleeting second.  I find if I allow my mind to drift a bit and I’m less ‘present’ that I can easily miss these wonderful photographic opportunities.
