Karl took this photo at Luna Park before Alison and Michael entered their reception at Aqua Dining. As I was going through some of Alison’s photos from the day, there were a series of these shots in front of the Ferris Wheel. This was my favourite. Karl has used the existing artificial light to light Alison’s face – there was no flash used in the shot. What made this photo work a little better than the others was that Alison has her face tilted towards the light, following Karl’s direction.

I think this photo has a beautiful, romantic and nostalgic feel about it. Karl has purposefully chosen a really wide open aperture (f1.8) to throw the background out (and create some lovely bokeh with the Ferris Wheel looking like round circles). It makes Alison and Michael really pop out and places them in a fun park without overtly being flat in front of the Ferris Wheel.

This is Chloe as she is starting to get ready. When I first get to the bride’s house or hotel room, I always take 5 or 10 minutes to have a look around for the best possible spots to take photos. I loved this formal room in Chloe’s parents house. It had beautiful natural window light and had a sense of dimension – the room had this beautiful mirror you can see as well as other opportunities for reflections and depth.

Chloe’s mum had placed the veil on a wooden hat stand and when I came in offered to move it. I loved it and thought it could work lovely as a prop in the photos. I love using veils in the bridal prep photos as they have such a delicate feminine quality. So, I draped the veil across the lounge (which is cropped out).

This image is in no way posed. I simply asked Chloe where to stand. And, this is how I like to photograph the bride’s prep – choosing the spots to shoot, letting the bride know which direction to stand and then, letting it unfold naturally.

I love this photo for many reasons. Firstly, Chloe looks beautiful. The image is feminine and natural. And, there is depth – this has been created by having some foreground of Chloe, then the veil, then Chloe’s reflection in the mirror and finally with the archways.

Adam’s groom’s speech is certainly in our Top 5 Grooms speeches. He had the guests roaring with laughter and in tears the next. Hip Hip Hooray!
